Pre-septal and Orbital Cellulitis

Pre-septal cellulitis manifests as relatively soft puffy swollen upper and/or lower eyelids, with any associated redness often spreading beyond the orbital rim borders. Children are most commonly affected, the trigger often being an external source such as an injury, foreign body or chalazion. A key feature is that there is no ocular involvement, the eye (which must be visualised) looking white with normal vision and eye movements.
